Getting To Know: Our New Interns!

Helllllo to our new interns, Jeremy and Bibi! They’ve been with us for a couple of weeks now, and in the tradition of new hires at TNT, they’re sitting down with head honcho, Zack Storms, for an introduction blog that may or may not be rambly and tangential. Enjoy!

ZS: Jeremy you need a hat!

JR:  Jesse hasn’t gotten me one yet

ZS: We’ll get him right on that. Cause you definitely need a hat! Ok, so Jeremy, how did you hear about Startup TNT?

JR: I saw the job posting at UofS and was very intrigued.  I had never seen an organization that was bringing people together from the investor community like this.

ZS:  And what appealed to you about the job posting?

JR: The community part of the job description. I love the motto. I found it really interesting, and at my age, I think there’s no better experience than TNT, to find like-minded individuals to build business with.

ZS: Community seems to be a common theme

JR: So far, it’s been a super infectious community! I’m already roped into a ton of great events and meeting awesome people.

ZS: And how did you hear about TNT, Bibi?

BK: From Professor Tony Briggs, at our very first class at the business program at the UofA.  Everything was online at that time except the TNT Happy Hour, so I came and checked it out.  It was a like-minded, open community, and everyone was welcome.

ZS:  Bibi, what are you looking forward to this summer at TNT?

BK: I really enjoy organizing events and I’m looking forward to putting on great events like the Top 20 Pitch Night and the Summit Finale, with the team. I also look forward to learning more about the startups here and how we can expand the organization to new locations - Slovakia (my home country) even!

ZS: That would be incredible!

BK:  I’m also very interested in bringing more female community members out to the events - entrepreneurs, investors, everyone.

ZS:  100%. Ok, tell us a bit about your background

BK: I have a background in Communications and now am doing a Master’s in Business Administration. I love technology and tech startups.

ZS: And what does the perfect role for you look like when you graduate?

BK: I want to stay in the startup world - for example, making connections at an accelerator or incubator. I really enjoy coordination and networking. You meet great people and help them.  And I’d love to one day be a founder myself.

ZS: I feel like this is a job interview, lol. Ok, I’m going to switch back to Jeremy. Jeremy, what was your favorite summer job growing up?

JR:  I had a great job at a golf course - I was outside and around people, which is perfect for me. And then I got more involved in management of the organization, which led me to interest in finance and my current program at UofS.

ZS: So what do we have to do to ensure that THIS is your best summer job ever?

JR: Well, it’s already starting off that way! I think there are really interesting opportunities - for example, helping with the launch of your new VC fund. I already feel like I’m part of the team and contributing.

ZS: What about you, Bibi? What would make this your best summer job ever?

BK: Great question. I want to be included in the event planning, but also have opportunities to learn, grow personally, and spearhead my own projects.

ZS: are you both of drinking age?

JR and BK: Of course!

ZS: What's your favorite beer?

JR:  Pilsner from Saskatchewan!

BK: I often drink tea or pineapple juice mixed with water. Which then everyone asks about.

ZS: Why do you water down tea? It already is water!

BK: No, just pineapple juice!

ZS: That pineapple juice is too strong! But wait, you just were mentioning a kind of beer you liked, in the office the other day.

BK:  I like desperados or IPAs.

ZS:  What’s a desperado?

BK: Like a Corona, but better!

ZS: Ahhh gotcha. Ok, this has been a blast. Let’s go and get it done!
